Future Simple
The Future Simple is the first future tense that we learn when learning English. We use this tense to talk about future actions. In the Future Simple, we use the modal verb will.
Affirmative sentences in Future Simple
To form sentences we place will before the main verb in the base form (bare infinitive).
Subject + will + bare infinitive + the rest of the sentence
It’s important to notice that the verb to be is not conjugated according to the subject in the Future Simple (like it is in other tenses). Instead, after will we use the form be.
Will contracts to ‘ll with the use of an apostrophe.
Bare infinitive
The base form of the verb is called infinitive. Infinitives have two forms, with to – e.g. to work (to-infinitives), or without to – e.g. work (bare infinitives). In the Present Simple, we use infinitives without to.
Negative sentences in Future Simple
Negative sentences are formed by adding not between will and the main verb.
Subject + will + not + bare infinitive + the rest of the sentence
We can shorten will not to won’t.
Questions in Future Simple
We form questions by inversion of will.
Will + subject + bare infinitive + the rest of the sentence
