Future Simple<\/h1>\n

The Future Simple is the first future tense that we learn when learning English. We use this tense to talk about future actions. In the Future Simple, we use the modal verb will<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Affirmative sentences in Future Simple<\/h2>\n

To form sentences we place will<\/i> before the main verb in the base form (bare infinitive).<\/p>\n

Subject<\/span> + will<\/span> + bare infinitive<\/span> + the rest of the sentence<\/h5>\n
I<\/span> will<\/span> call<\/span><\/strong> you.<\/div>\n

It\u2019s important to notice that the verb to be<\/i> is not conjugated according to the subject in the Future Simple (like it is in other tenses). Instead, after will<\/i> we use the form be<\/i>.<\/p>\n

I will be<\/strong><\/span> late.<\/div>\n

Will<\/i> contracts to \u2018ll<\/b> with the use of an apostrophe.<\/p>\n

I will \u21d2 I\u2019ll<\/b><\/div>\n

Bare infinitive<\/h5>\n

The base form of the verb is called infinitive. Infinitives have two forms, with to<\/i> – e.g. to work (to-infinitives), or without to<\/i> – e.g. work (bare infinitives). In the Present Simple, we use infinitives without to<\/i>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Negative sentences in Future Simple<\/h2>\n

Negative sentences are formed by adding not<\/i> between will<\/i> and the main verb.<\/p>\n

Subject<\/span> + will<\/span> + not<\/span> + bare infinitive<\/span> + the rest of the sentence<\/h5>\n
I<\/span> will<\/span> not<\/span> call<\/span><\/strong> you.<\/div>\n

We can shorten will not<\/i> to won\u2019t<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Questions in Future Simple<\/h2>\n

We form questions by inversion of will<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Will<\/span> + subject<\/span> + bare infinitive<\/span> + the rest of the sentence<\/h5>\n

The Usage of Future Simple<\/h5>\n

We use the Future Simple:<\/p>\n

+ to talk about spontaneous decisions<\/b><\/div>\n
I will come with you.
\nI think I will eat pancakes for lunch.<\/div>\n
+ to predict the future<\/b><\/div>\n
Adam will take that new job.
\nIt will snow tomorrow.<\/div>\n
+ to offer promises, offers, requests, invitations<\/b><\/div>\n
Will you buy me that dress we saw?
\nI will call you tomorrow.
\nWill you come with us?<\/div>\n
+ in the first conditional<\/b><\/div>\n
I will go with you if you wait for me 10 minutes.
\nAvah will call us if he gets lost.<\/div>\n
+ with the verb \u201cbe\u201d even if it wasn’t spontaneous<\/b><\/div>\n
I’ll be home tomorrow.
