In this tense, we use verbs in the past tense form. We use the Past Simple to talk about past events. After the subject of the sentence, we place the verb <i>to be<\/i> in the appropriate form.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"margin-bottom: 10px;\"><span style=\"color: #8dc449;\">Subject<\/span> + <span style=\"color: #c56bcc;\">was\/were<\/span> + the rest of the sentence<\/h5>\n<div class=\"lineXp\"><strong><span style=\"color: #8dc449;\">I<\/span> <span style=\"color: #c56bcc;\">was<\/span><\/strong> sick last week.<\/div>\n<p>We use <i>to be<\/i> with nouns, adjectives, and prepositional phrases.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lineXp\">I was a <u>student<\/u>. (noun)<br \/>\nI was <u>sad<\/u>. (adjective)<br \/>\nI was <u>in Boston<\/u>. The questions are formed by inversion of <i>did<\/i>.
