Present Perfect Continuous<\/h1>\n

Similar to the Present Perfect, the Present Perfect Continuous is a present tense that is used to talk about the past. We use the Present Perfect Continuous to talk about events from the past that still continue in the present or have effects on the present. What\u2019s important in this tense is the duration of a given activity.<\/p>\n

Affirmative sentences in Present Perfect Continuous<\/h2>\n

To form sentences in the Present Perfect Continuous we use have<\/em> (or has<\/em> in the third person singular), the Past Participle form of to be,<\/em> and a main verb in the present participle (verb-ing).<\/p>\n

Subject<\/span> + have\/has<\/span> + been<\/span> + verb-ing<\/span> + the rest of the sentence<\/h5>\n
I<\/span> have<\/span> been<\/span> learning<\/span><\/strong> English for 5 years.<\/div>\n

The only change in the third-person singular is to use has<\/i> instead of have<\/i>.<\/p>\n

He has<\/strong><\/span> been learning English for 5 years.<\/div>\n

Negative sentences in Present Perfect Continuous<\/h2>\n

Negative sentences are formed by adding not<\/i> between have\/has<\/i> and been<\/i>.<\/p>\n
