We use Present Simple to talk about present events, which happen regularly. We can also use the Present Simple to speak about scheduled events in the near future. In the Present Simple tense, the verb \u201cto be\u201d forms sentence structures different from other verbs. (prepositional phrase)<\/div>\n<h3 style=\"margin-bottom: 10px;\">Negative sentences with to be in Present Simple<\/h3>\n<p>Negative sentences with <em>to be<\/em> are formed by adding <em>not<\/em> after <em>to be<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"margin-bottom: 10px;\"><span style=\"color: #8dc449;\">Subject<\/span> + <span style=\"color: #c56bcc;\">to be<\/span> + <span style=\"color: #ec3a71;\">not<\/span> + the rest of the sentence<\/h5>\n<div class=\"lineXp\"><strong><span style=\"color: #8dc449;\">I<\/span> <span style=\"color: #c56bcc;\">am<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ec3a71;\">not<\/span><\/strong> a doctor.<\/div>\n<p>In negative sentences we make contractions with the verb <em>to be<\/em> and <em>not<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lineXp\">are not \u21d2 <b>aren\u2019t<\/b><br \/>\nis not \u21d2 <b>isn\u2019t<\/b><\/div>\n<p>But there is no negative contraction for the verb <em>to be<\/em> in the first person.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wrongx\">amn\u2019t<\/div>\n<h3 style=\"margin-bottom: 10px;\">Question with to be in Present Simple<\/h3>\n<p>We form questions with <em>to be<\/em> by inversing <em>to be<\/em>. Another important thing to remember in the Present Simple is the verb <i>to be<\/i>. However, in negative sentences, instead of adding -s (-es) to the verb, we add -es to the auxiliary verb (do &#8211; does) and we do not add -s (-es) to the main verb.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lineXp\">He <strong>do<span style=\"color: #fd6c6e;\">es<\/span><\/strong> not work in a hospital.<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrongx\">He do not works in a hospital.<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrongx\">He does not works in a hospital.<\/div>\n<p>We form contractions in negative sentences with <i>do\/does<\/i> and <i>not<\/i>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lineXp\">do not \u21d2 <b>don\u2019t<\/b><br \/>\ndoes not \u21d2 <b>doesn\u2019t<\/b><\/div>\n<h3 style=\"margin-bottom: 10px;\">Questions in Present Simple<\/h3>\n<p>We form questions in the Present Simple by placing the auxiliary verb <i>do<\/i> at the beginning of the sentence.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"margin-bottom: 10px;\"><span style=\"color: #fd6c6e;\">Do\/does<\/span> + <span style=\"color: #8dc449;\">subject<\/span> + <span style=\"color: #c56bcc;\">verb<\/span> + the rest of the sentence<\/h5>\n<div class=\"lineXp\"><strong><span style=\"color: #fd6c6e;\">Do<\/span> <span style=\"color: #8dc449;\">you<\/span> <span style=\"color: #c56bcc;\">work<\/span><\/strong> in a hospital?<\/div>\n<p>Similarly to negative sentences, when forming questions where the subject is in the third person singular (he, she, it), we use <i>does<\/i>.
